Marc Wolinsky named “Litigator of the Week”

Wachtell Lipton is proud to announce that Marc Wolinsky has been named “Litigator of the Week” by ALM.

Marc played a pivotal role in leading the team that successfully exonerated George Bell and secured a $4.4 million settlement with New York State on George’s behalf earlier this year. Working alongside Richard Emery and Debbie Greenberger of Emery Celli Brinckerhoff Abady Ward & Maazel, the team also pursued federal civil rights claims against New York City, resulting in a historic $17.5 million settlement for Bell this week.

George Bell unjustly served 24 years in prison on a life without parole sentence for crimes he did not commit. Alongside Gary Johnson and Rohan Bolt, he was wrongfully convicted in the 1996 killing of the owner of a Queens check-cashing store and an off-duty police officer providing security. Thanks to new evidence, Bell, Johnson, and Bolt were exonerated two years ago and subsequently released.

Special recognition goes to Scott Stevenson, Anna Schwarz, Amanda Lee, Sunny Jeon, and Emma Stein for their invaluable contributions to this remarkable achievement.
